Dr Drew Walker, NHS Tayside Director of Public Health, said, ?The figures reported by the Scottish Government for Tayside are higher than the overall Scottish average.
?However, this cannot necessarily be attributed to a higher consultation rate for flu-like symptoms as GPs in Tayside use different software packages and record flu-like symptoms in a different way from other boards.
?The figures are also based on relatively small sample sizes and so should be interpreted with caution.
?In the last week there have been two patients treated in hospital who have been confirmed as having Influenza A (H1N1). Both have now been discharged home.
?I would like to remind anyone who is experiencing any of the flu-like symptoms that they should stay at home and phone their own GP, nhs24 on 08454 24 24 24 or the Swine Flu Helpline on 0800 1 513 513 and they will advise you what to do next. ?The public can help us to prevent the spread of this virus by practicing good hygiene. Frequent hand washing, keeping surfaces clean, and covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, are some of the basic steps we can all take to prevent any infection spreading.?
