BUBBLES

What is it?

Bubbles is a local name for a substance, the main ingredient of which is a research chemical called mephedrone.
MEPHADRONE HAS BECOME ILLEGAL FROM FRIDAY 16TH APRIL 2010. IT IS A CLASS B DRUG. IF YOU ARE CAUGHT IN POSSESSION OF THE DRUG YOU CAN BE CHARGED AND IMPRISONED FOR UP TO 5 YEARS

Warning!

The statutory and voluntary agencies that work with young people in Tayside want to send out a clear warning that anyone who takes Bubbles is putting their health in danger.
Recently five people in Dundee suffered non-fatal overdoses after taking bubbles. While all of them recovered after consuming the substance, two of them were hospitalised.

The effects of Bubbles

The effects to a person?s health from taking this drug can be very serious. Reported effects include increased heart rate, agitation, irritability, dizziness, nausea and severe vomiting, as well as increased blood pressure.
It can also cause anxiety and paranoid states and risk over stimulating the heart and nervous system to cause fits. Severe nosebleeds have been reported after snorting. People who develop such symptoms after having taking bubbles must seek medical assistance immediately.
As with all substances, mixing bubbles with prescribed medicines or alcohol can cause serious health problems.

What is in it?

The very clear message is that this substance has not undergone any clinical studies and there is a lack of knowledge about what short or long-term effects it may have on people who take it. Bubbles are similar to solvents; they are not made for human consumption.
As with any substance, the buyer has no idea what the capsules actually contain. Mephedrone in itself is dangerous, but there are also concerns about the variety of possible unknown additives in the capsules. In addition to capsules Bubbles are now increasingly being sold in plastic zip lock bags and look like white powder. Bags sometimes have designs such as smiley faces or cannabis leaf prints on them.

How much?

The buyer has no idea what is in the capsules being sold to them.
The dealer doesn?t care what they are pushing on to buyers or what the health implications will be for the consumer. Their sole aim is to make as much money as possible for themselves.
Bubbles should not be taken, they are not ?cool? and there is potential for serious health implications for any person using this substance.
It is also important to reiterate that just because the substance WAS legal it does not mean that it is safe which seems to be the impression that some young people have. These substances are dangerous and should not be consumed.
Further information on drugs can be obtained from either contacting local services such as Addaction or The Web who will advise you further.
